ในมหาชาติเวสสันดรชาดก ๑๓ กัณฑ์ ๑๐๐๐ คาถา
กัณฑ์ทศพร นับเป็นกัณฑ์แรก กัณฑ์ทศพร ประดับด้วยคาถา ๑๙ คาถา
เป็นพระนิพนธ์ใน สมเด็จพระมหาสมณเจ้า กรมพระปรมานุชิตชิโนรส
วัดพระเชตุพนวิมลมังคลาราม กรุงเทพมหานคร
เพลงประจำกัณฑ์ คือ เพลง “สาธุการ”
ประกอบกิริยาน้อมนมัสการรับพรทั้ง ๑๐ ประการของพระนางผุสดี
ข้อคิดจากกัณฑ์
การทำบุญจะได้ดังประสงค์ ต้องอธิษฐานจิต
ตั้งเป้าหมายชีวิตที่ตนปรารถนาไว้ตั้งมั่นและบริบูรณ์ในศีล
ได้แก่ การทำความดี รักษาความดีนั้น และหมั่นเพิ่มพูนความดีให้มากยิ่งขึ้น
เนื้อความโดยย่อ
อดีตกาลโพ้น ก่อนสมัยพุทธกาลนานหลายกัปป์
กล่าวถึงพระเจ้ากรุงสญชัย พระโอรสพระเจ้าสีวีราชแห่งกรุงสีพี
ทรงอภิเษกสมรสกับพระธิดาพระเจ้ากรุงมัททราช พระนาม “ผุสดี”
ผู้ซึ่งได้รับพร ๑๐ ประการ หรือทศพร จากพระอินทร์ เทพผู้เป็นใหญ่
ด้วยมูลเหตุดังนี้
พระนางผุสดีเมื่อสิ้นพระชาติที่ทรงกำเนิดเป็นพระนางสุธรรมา
และด้วยพระบารมีแก่กล้า พระนางเสด็จสู่สวรรค์อุบัติเป็นเทพธิดาผุสดี
เป็นพระอัครมเหสีแห่งอินทรเทพ
ครั้งถึงคราต้องทรงจุติจากสวรรค์
พระอินทรเทพได้ประทานพร ๑๐ ประการให้ตามที่พระนางมีพระประสงค์ดังนี้
๑. ได้บังเกิดในปราสาทแห่งพระเจ้ากรุงสีพี
๒. มีพระเนตรดำขลับประดุจตาลูกเนื้อทราย
๓. พระขนงดำสนิท
๔. ทรงพระนามว่า ผุสดี
๕. มีพระโอรสทรงพระเกียรติยศยิ่งกษัตริย์ทั้งปวง
และมีพระศรัทธาในพระกุศลทั้งปวง
๖. เมื่อทรงพระครรภ์ อย่าให้พระครรภ์โย้นูนดังสตรีมีครรภ์ทั่วไป
๗. พระถันงาม เวลาทรงพระครรภ์ก็มิดำและหย่อนคล้อย แม้กาลเวลาล่วงไป
๘. พระเกศาดำสนิทประดุจสีปีกแมลงค่อมทอง
๙. พระฉวีละเอียดงามเป็นนวลละออง ดังทองธรรมชาติปราศจากราคี
๑๐. ขอให้ทรงบารมี ทรงอำนาจไว้ชีวิตนักโทษประหารได้
มิใช่เพียงพร ๑๐ ประการ
ที่หนุนเนื่องให้พระนางผุสดีได้เป็นพระพุทธมารดาในชาติกาลต่อมา
ครั้งอดีตชาติ พระนางเคยเฝ้าถวายแก่นจันทร์แดงเป็นพุทธบูชา
แก่พระวิปัสสีสัมมาสัมพุทธเจ้า พร้อมทั้งทรงอธิษฐาน
ตั้งพระปรารถนาให้ได้เป็นพระพุทธมารดาในอนาคตชาติด้วย
